invites applications for a permanent position as

Professor (W 2) in Palaeontology (facies analysis)

at the Faculty of Sciences, Department of Geography and Geosciences from 11 August 2014 at the earliest.

We are seeking a candidate who is able to represent the discipline adequately in research and teaching. The candidate’s internationally visible research should focus on microfacies analysis and carbonate sedimentology. Experience in paleoecology, carbonate petrology, geological modelling, or geochemistry are further assets. We expect the successful applicant to participate in interdisciplinary research projects, fundraising and joint research projects at the GeoZentrum (Geo-Centre of Northern Bavaria), the Faculty of Science, and in collaboration with other departments of the University. The responsibilities connected with the position also include administrative duties and contributions to the services offered by the GeoZentrum.

To qualify for the position, applicants must have a university degree, good teaching skills, a doctorate and additional scientific achievements. The latter must be demonstrated by a post-doctoral qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent academic qualifications, which may have been obtained during a junior professorship or outside of the university.

With respect to further preconditions for the job, legal provisions apply.

The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods. Proficiency in spoken and written German is not required initially, but a willingness to learn German within three years is expected.
